Barabbas (1961)
Director: Richard Fleischer
Starring: Anthony Quinn, Silvana Mangano, Arthur Kennedy, Jack Palance, Ernest Borgnine, Katy Jurado
A good movie but a little too long at 134 minutes.
Barabbas was a notorious robber during the governorship of Pontius Pilate of Judea. Pilate wanted to release Jesus of Nazareth and so he proposed to condemn to death Barabbas instead of Jesus. This was all in accordance with Roman custom. But this was not acceptable to the affronted Jews. Rather they demanded that Barabbas be pardoned and this is what Pilate did.
The movie deals with how Barabbas's life and soul were changed by these events.
