The Buddy Holly Story (1978)

Director:    Steve Rash.

Starring:    Gary Busey, Don Stroud, Charles Martin Smith, Conrad Janis, Maria Richwine

Actor Gary Busey does an outstanding job as the 1950's Texas rockabilly phenomenon Buddy Holly, leader of the band the Crickets.  The story covers his rise to the top of the music charts with his hit "That'll Be The Day."

The story is a tragic one for just as he finds success and love he dies in a plane crash en route to Minnesota in a snow storm on February 3, 1959.  (Also lost in the crash were singers Richie Valens and the Big Bopper.)
