This is a very good movie.  There have been a number of movies that have explored the horrific life of the desperately poor.  I can still remember after many years how shocked I was at the tragic ending of Los Olvidados (The Forgotten Ones).   The humans at this level of poverty are totally forgettable like garbage dumped in a land fill.  (And yet American rednecks still blame the poor themselves for their poverty.)

What happens in the slums of Brazil is also very shocking.  American ghettos are bad enough, but they just can't compare to the misery and terror of a Brazilian ghetto.

Patrick Louis Cooney, Ph. D.
