Spoiler Warning:

This is a very charming movie.  When so many men were at war, including many of the major league stars, that some men decided to start a league of women's baseball.  The film follows the lives of several of the women to see the adventure from their prespective.  Two of the main characters are sisters (Geena Davis and Lori Petty) whose sibling rivlary carries onto the baseball diamond.  And, there is Madonna, adding a special interest, and being typecast as a wild young woman, along with her real-life buddy, Rosie O'Donnell.  Tom Hanks is very funny as the drunken ex-baseball star who manages the team.

Of course, the war is never far from their lives, especially when husbands are reported killed on the battle fields.
