The rise to celebrity status of the Tejano princess Selena Quintanilla Perez.
Her father, a former member of a doo-wop group known as the Dinos, pushes Selena and her sister and brother to form a musical group of their own. Selena struggles against her domineering father to love the man she chooses in spite of her father's reservations.
She rises higher and higher in the music business and is poised to hit the big time, acceptance in the larger American musical culture, when she is murdered.
1995 -- killed by the president of her fan club.
This film made Jennifer Lopez a star. She was very good in the film. Since I saw the film I have bought some of Selena's CDs and DVDs. I love the songs, the rhythms, the voice and her delivery and dancing. She was quite the singer and performer.
