Tender Comrade (1943)

Director:    Edward Dmytryk.

Starring:    Ginger Rogers, Robert Ryan, Ruth Hussey, Patricia Collinge, Kim Hunter, Jane Darwell, Mary Forbes, Richard Martin.

Ginger Rogers is left home as her husband Robert Ryan goes off to fight World War II.  She takes a job riveting planes and moves into living space with three other women.  The women not only help each other financially, but emotionally as a support group as well.

The House on Unamerican Activities used this film as evidence to justify blacklisting writer-director Edward Dmytryk.  (But not to worry about him, at least; he ended up cooperating with HUAC and naming names and doing well financially and professionally.)
